In honour of the great Nelson Mandela’s Centenary this year, we did our bit to walk in the shoes of our exemplary leader. The LINC and Limpopo Maternal CARE (LIMMCARE) team treated preggy moms at Rethabile Community Health Centre to an exciting and informative antenatal education class, together with a goody bag for their special little one’s arrival. The topics covered in the class ranged from what happens to mom and baby during the three trimesters of pregnancy, key danger signs and what to do, what to expect and do during the 3 stages of labour, practicing skin-to-skin and exclusive breastfeeding when baby finally makes it into the world. The alumni moms eagerly shared their experiences with their previous pregnancies that contributed to an enjoyable pregnancy. The newbie moms who were initially anxious about the impending labour and birth left the class feeling empowered and ready for an amazing and memorable labour and birth. All the moms were genuinely grateful for the information that was shared with them as well as the opportunity to just relax, share a lot of laughter and stories with each other at a health facility. They said that the day made them feel very special…we told them that they are gold and deserve it all and more. Good luck to all those special moms!
